Identify the cartridge before comparing the numbers

Start with the full name printed on the cartridge package. Similar-looking filters can have different product descriptions, and a search result for an older version may not apply to the item in your cupboard. Save the package identifier and the current manufacturer page with the date you checked it. This is particularly useful when buying multipacks or replacing an older cartridge.

BRITA's current UK collection guidance describes MAXTRA PRO Limescale Expert and Pure Performance cartridges as filtering up to150 litres, with replacement after four weeks at the latest. Keep both parts of that statement together. The litre figure is not a reason to ignore the stated time limit.

Use a volume calculation only as a planning aid

A simple volume estimate can help you understand your routine, provided it does not override the product instructions. For a hypothetical use of2 litres each day,28 days totals56 litres. At an assumed5 litres per day, the same period totals140 litres. Both calculations are straightforward multiplication; neither establishes actual filter performance or changes the applicable replacement requirement.

Write down whether the volume is measured or estimated. A jug may be refilled for several purposes, so counting only drinking glasses can miss part of the total. If the product has an indicator, consult its own instructions to understand what it tracks rather than assuming every indicator measures the same thing.

Do not turn unused capacity into extra time

A household using less water may reach the time limit before an advertised maximum volume. That does not create a bank of unused days. Use the manufacturer's current instructions and any additional product conditions, rather than extending the interval by dividing the litre figure by a low daily estimate. The planning calculation explains possible use; it does not authorise a longer service period.

As another hypothetical comparison,6 litres daily would total168 litres in28 days. This illustrates why a time-only diary may also be incomplete for higher use. Check the exact cartridge conditions and manufacturer guidance when deciding when a replacement is required, instead of treating either headline number in isolation.

Keep the jug and cartridge identifiable

The jug body, lid, indicator and cartridge are different parts of the system. Save the jug model as well as the cartridge name so that a future replacement can be checked properly. The historical photographs here show a pitcher, lid components and an older cartridge. They are not images identifying the current MAXTRA PRO variants or demonstrating their installation.

BRITA's UK FAQ also directs users to product-specific information because cartridge life depends on the type and use. If your package and an online description appear inconsistent, resolve the difference with the manufacturer before applying a schedule. Do not substitute a visually similar cartridge solely because it appears to fit.

Create a reminder that preserves the source

Record the installation date, exact cartridge and manufacturer instruction used for the reminder. Keep a separate note of any measured volume if relevant to your product. When the cartridge is changed, record the completed event rather than simply moving an old reminder forward. This makes the record useful when another person looks after the jug.

The aim is to make the applicable limits easy to find. It is not to make health claims, estimate contaminant removal from a photograph or convert a maximum capacity into a guarantee. Use the current instructions for preparation, storage, replacement and any local water advice, and update the record when the cartridge or jug changes.
